Vins Ojalà ! - Eléonore Noël
🍇 Vins Ojalà ! – Eléonore Noël
Let us introduce you to one of the Jura's most exciting young voices. Eléonore Noël named her project "Ojalà !" – a Spanish word meaning "hopefully" or "let's hope so" – and that little burst of optimism says everything about her wines. They're bright, honest and full of life, made by someone who genuinely loves what she does. If you're curious about the new generation shaking up eastern France, this is the perfect place to start.
🗺️ A tiny region with a huge personality
The Jura sits between Burgundy and Switzerland, tucked against the mountains that gave the region its name. It's one of the smallest wine areas in France, which means every bottle here feels personal. The climate is cool, the winters are long, and the vines have to work hard – exactly the kind of conditions that produce wines with real tension and character. You'll taste that freshness in every glass.
🪨 Marl, limestone and a whole lot of patience
Underneath the Jura vineyards you'll find grey and blue marls mixed with limestone, the remains of an ancient seabed. These clay-rich soils hold water well and give the wines their distinctive salty, mineral edge. Eléonore works her plots with a lot of care and very little intervention, letting the terroir do the talking rather than covering it up. The result is wine that tastes like somewhere, not just like something.
🍷 The grapes you'll meet
Savagnin is the star of the show here – a thick-skinned white grape capable of everything from zesty, crunchy wines to the famous oxidative styles. Chardonnay takes on a completely different accent in the Jura, leaner and more saline than its Burgundian cousin. On the red side, Poulsard brings pale colour and delicate red fruit, Trousseau adds spice and structure, and Pinot Noir rounds things out with elegance. Each one shows a different side of the region.
✨ Why you'll want a bottle
These are wines made in small quantities, with genuine intention and no shortcuts. They're brilliant with food – think comté, poultry in cream sauce, or simply good bread and cheese with friends. Whether you already know the Jura or you're taking your first steps, Eléonore's bottles are a joy to open. Grab one while you can, because they don't hang around for long.
