JM Sélèque

🍾 JM Sélèque — Champagne with a clear voice

If you've ever wondered what happens when a young grower decides to question everything his family taught him, JM Sélèque is your answer. Based in Pierry, just south of Épernay, Jean-Marc Sélèque took over the family plots in 2008 and quietly turned them into one of the most talked-about addresses in Champagne. No fuss, no marketing noise — just bottles that make people stop mid-sentence.

📍 Pierry and the Coteaux Sud d'Épernay

The estate works around 9 hectares spread across roughly 45 parcels, mostly in Pierry, Moussy, Vaudancourt and Dizy. The soils here are a patchwork of chalk, clay and marl, and that variety is exactly what gives these wines their texture. Jean-Marc treats each plot separately, vinifies small lots, and only blends when he's convinced the pieces belong together. It's painstaking work, and you taste it.

🍇 The grapes

Chardonnay sits at the heart of the range — think chalky tension, citrus zest and a saline finish that keeps pulling you back. Meunier, often treated as a supporting player elsewhere, gets real respect here, bringing roundness, orchard fruit and a gentle spice. Pinot Noir adds backbone and depth. The Solessence cuvée is the perfect place to start: generous, precise, endlessly drinkable. Then there's Quintette, five Chardonnay parcels bottled side by side, and the single-variety Partition bottlings for anyone who wants to go deeper.

🌿 How it's made

Sustainable farming, hand harvesting, fermentation in a mix of barrels, foudres and stainless steel, plus extended ageing on lees and low dosage. Nothing is done for show — every choice is there to let the fruit and the terroir speak clearly.

🥂 On the table

Open one as an aperitif and it'll charm everyone in the room. But these Champagnes genuinely shine at the table: oysters, roast chicken, aged Comté, grilled turbot, even a plate of sushi. They've got the structure to handle real food, which is rarer than you'd think.

Treat yourself. JM Sélèque is Champagne made by someone who clearly loves what he does — and that comes through in every glass.
