Vaira Aurelj
🍷 Vaira Aurelj: Natural Piedmont Wine Blending Family Memory, Free Terroirs, and New-Generation Energy
Located in Vergne, a village nestled between Barolo, La Morra, and Narzole, Vaira Aurelj is the project of two young brothers, Francesco and Giacomo Vaira. To honor their late father, they named the estate “Aurelj,” a dialect version of his name, Aurelio. After working in prestigious wineries, they launched their own venture on 4.35 hectares of organically farmed vines (not certified), with biodynamic trials underway. The plots sit at 450 meters altitude with southeast and southwest exposure on limestone-clay soils. Some lie within the Barolo DOCG (Fossati, Vigna del Pensiero), others in a “Free Zone” outside the appellation. Winemaking is natural: destemming, native yeasts, no fining or filtration, aging in used barrels. The wines are fragrant, elegant, rebellious, and deeply sincere.
